APPLICATION OF CENTRIFUGAL PUMP

***Mr. Ebay has finally delivered my flash [purchased before Christmas] and a 43" collapsible reflector [purchased shortly after Christmas. ***

My first run with them was quite smooth. Of course i used myself as the subject...nobody has the time of day to wait for two hours while tinker with the exposure, positioning and so on. Even on Sunday.

My setup is part natural light [sun] and part strobist light.
Strobist info: I had a reflector to the front,left of me that was pumping sunlight directly at me. A flash on a stand to the right, front of me, with a gridded snoot about a foot from my face. Then there was a bare, orange gelled strobe behind me on the right, that provided the rim light.

I worked really hard at not having the whole part of me lit up at one time, i do not like the over-lit portraits that are now so common. I prefer contrast.
But anyways, as i was going though the photos in adobe light-room, i applied a preset to one of them and it instantly reminded me of the 60's style lighting and color that is so often seen in old magazines.
I was not quite happy with results using only lightroom so i exported to Photoshop and adjusted the curves, all 4 individually to create a desaturated, cross-processed effect to my liking.
Then a high pass filter..only a slight one, some dodging and burning. and i go this.
If it does't remind you of the old portraits, please leave criticism! I won't take it personal...

I'm a hutterite...and i should be wearing suspenders. But i am not in this photo. So when looking at it, just imagine they are there....

I was saving this concept for the alphabet project, but at the rate I've been taking pictures lately I probably would have gotten to S a full year from now.
